COVIDTests.gov, the new website for ordering free COVID-19 tests, has gone live a day early.
The website will provide the public with free rapid antigen at-home tests that can be taken anywhere and offer results within 30 minutes. The Biden administration said the website will help provide 500 million tests to people in need.
Each household can order one set of four at-home tests at no cost, according to the website. Citizens are required to provide their names and residential addresses. Each delivery is expected to take 7-12 days.
Pretty impressive — the free covid test ordering site is taking orders now, a day *ahead* of the announced launch. (I wonder if this is a test for all users or just some users?) https://t.co/aFmwzZ0Eqn pic.twitter.com/uZ0zmVqhXc

The ordering page for the tests indicated that orders will not be shipped until late January.
While the 7-12 day wait time may seem long for some, the page does list alternative options for those in need of tests at an earlier date, including lists of free testing sites, insurance reimbursement, and purchasing at-home tests at retailers or pharmacies.
GOP PLATFORM WINRED PROCESSES $559 MILLION IN 2021
The White House announced on Friday that it would make 500 million tests available for order on Jan. 19, which would be mailed to households for free.
The White House also authorized insurance companies to reimburse the purchase of up to eight COVID-19 tests.
While the website was operating well on Tuesday, some have expressed concerns about whether the website will hold up, considering the federal government’s history with healthcare websites. The Obamacare website, launched in 2013, suffered an assortment of problems in the first few months after its release. These struggles were due to the Obama administration’s failure to test the website before release.
