Mitch McConnell: Puerto Rico aid package is coming this month

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday the Senate would vote soon on new federal funding to aid Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands after they were hit by two devastating hurricanes.

McConnell, R-Ky., said he expects the administration will send a supplemental request in mid-October, and that the Senate would quickly take up the bill.

The package will require passage in both the House and Senate.

President Trump visited the U.S. territory on Tuesday. McConnell has also met with a handful of Puerto Rico’s local elected leaders.
