MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle accused a GOP pollster Monday morning of suggesting that presidential candidate Kamala Harris would not receive votes from Never Trump conservatives because she’s “too black.”
Ruhle had GOP pollster Chris Wilson and Eddie Glaude on her show and brought up independent Rep. Justin Amash opting to leave the door open for a potential third-party presidential run during an interview on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday morning. She asked them how a potential run from the Michigan congressman could affect both President Trump and the eventual Democratic nominee.
“I actually think it doesn’t complicate it at all. In fact, it may actually help him because what they’re a lot of people out there, Republicans who have sentiments left over from 2016 who define themselves as Never Trumpers that are probably looking for someone else to vote for. They didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump,” Wilson stated. “If Joe Biden were the nominee, they might be able to vote for him, but they’re not going to be able to vote for an Elizabeth Warren or a Kamala Harris or Bernie Sanders. So what Amash may do is give them a siphon.”
“Why not a Kamala Harris?” Ruhle asked.
He answered, “Just because she’s a little bit too far left.”
Ruhle then asked Wilson to name a specific policy that was too far left before saying, “Tell me, because it sounds it’s more she’s just too black.”
“Okay, no, I mean, that’s absurd, Stephanie — to go there,” Wilson responded. “Bernie Sanders is too old. Why didn’t you go there first?”
“But I get the Bernie and Elizabeth Warren, I just want to understand,” Ruhle conceded.
