Always the bridesmaid, never the bridezilla
Jury selection was Thursday in Hagerstown, Md., for the trial of a woman charged with breaking into her former fiance’s house wearing only a bridal skirt and veil.
Melissa Wagaman, 33, entered a plea of not guilty.
Police said she used her head to break her neighbor’s window after telling her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend that Wagaman’s mother was locked in their basement.
The boyfriend, Aaron Parrot, said he severed an artery in his arm while trying to keep Wagaman out.
Police found Wagaman lying on the ground, and took her to a hospital where doctors said she was suffering from a drug-induced psychosis.
Bear necessities
A Colorado man faces burglary charges after allegedly breaking into a home, stealing a piece of soap and hiding in the attic.
Officers searched the attic after the family told police that they heard noises in the attic and found 47-year-old Troy Tutza hiding there.
Tutza had a bar of soap shaped like a bear, which had been swiped from a bathroom in the house. Officers also say that Tutza matches the description of a person who was reportedly seen looking into yards in the neighborhood earlier in the afternoon.
The investigation is continuing.
Just plane stupid
A telecom executive who missed his flight in Denver tried to get on by saying there was a bomb in his luggage.
Sergie Berejnoi, 49, arrived late at the gate and became irate, police said. He stated he had a bomb in his checked luggage, which was already on the aircraft, police said.
The aircraft was brought back to the gate and searched for explosives. None were found after an hour delay.
Berejnoi, the owner of long-distance telephone company, is charged with endangering public transportation, punishable by up to 12 years in jail.
Swan swipin’
A pet shop operator charged with stealing swans from Orlando’s signature lake tried to sell two of them on Craigslist, according to court documents.
Stephen Brezil, 22, the owner of Blazin’ Reptiles in Jacksonsville, was booked into the Orange County Jail on six charges of grand theft and six charges of animal cruelty.
Someone apparently saw Brezil put two black Australian swans into his gray Jeep and turned him in.
Later an ad on Craigslist read: “I have some Australian black swans looking to rehome very beautiful would look great in anyones private pond.” The contact number belongs to Brezil, a detective wrote.
Brezil told investigator that there were several birds “just walking around,” and he didn’t think they belonged to anyone because they were not fenced in, court papers show.
