Sheldon Adelson looking to form new super PAC ahead of 2018

Republican mega-donor Sheldon Adelson wants to form a new super PAC in order to win state legislative seats and governor’s mansions ahead of the 2020 redistricting.

CNN reported Adelson has had contact with some members of the Trump administration about the effort, toward which he is said to be willing to commit substantial resources. The group is envisioned to be similar to the Senate Leadership Fund and the Congressional Leadership Fund.

Top Republicans donors are said to be worried about the 2018 midterm elections due to President Trump’s time in office. The Democratic fundraising operation has been in overdrive since Trump came to the White House and many Republican donors have been ignored by the Trump administration.

Adelson is a major GOP kingmaker and has spent hundreds of millions on elections in order to help the Republican Party. He’s one of the few fundraisers that has been courted by the Trump administration, according to the report.

However, many donors are dismayed at the lack of communication from the White House.

“I don’t think he spends his time reaching out to donors,” said Spencer Zwick, a fundraiser for Mitt Romney and House Speaker Paul Ryan. “The way they got elected was not the way Romney built his campaign.”
