Rep. Doug Collins questioned “whose side” CNN is on and called for an investigation into the network in response to a recent report from Jim Sciutto of the network.
Sciutto reported Monday morning that the CIA extracted a Russian spy who was close to the Kremlin back in 2017. The reporting cited Trump’s handling of classified information as the reason behind the decision to pull the asset. However, the New York Times followed up CNN’s story, but “media scrutiny of the agency’s sources” came up with a different reason for the spy to get pulled out of Russia.
CIA Director for Public Affairs Brittany Bramell went so far as to characterize CNN’s reporting as “misguided speculation.”
Collins appeared Tuesday on America’s Newsroom to discuss the report.
“My response is first let’s talk about who actually wrote broke the story: CNN, this is the same group that hired [former FBI deputy director] Andy McCabe, who is one of the disastrous parts of the cabal that started against the president, as a commentator. To put this out at this time and to put it such a way the CIA actually had to come out and respond to this is really a disturbing part,” he answered.
“I really question whose side is CNN on,” Collins continued. “This is a problem that we’re seeing. I think it needs to be investigated.”
CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
