WESTMINSTER, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California woman has been charged with the murder of her 96-year-old mother by shooting her in the head.
Orange County prosecutors say 71-year-old Christine Reynolds was charged Tuesday with one count of murder with an enhancement for using a firearm.
Authorities say Reynolds shot Gretchen DeStefano in their home in the unincorporated Orange County area of Rossmoor on Thursday afternoon.
Reynolds was arrested at the scene. She is due to appear in court in Westminster later Tuesday.
Prosecutors want Reynolds held on $1 million bail.
The Sheriff’s Department says the shooting apparently stemmed from a domestic dispute but released no further details.
It was not immediately clear if Reynolds had an attorney.
