Afghan war veteran slams Boebert over State of the Union outburst

A U.S. Army combat veteran spoke frankly about his distaste for Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert’s State of the Union outburst, calling her “an idiot.”

Isiah James, a former congressional candidate who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, said in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday that Boebert “should be ashamed of her god**** self” for interrupting President Joe Biden, who was speaking about the 2015 death of his son Beau when Boebert shouted at the president about the 13 U.S. service members killed in last August’s Kabul airport bombing amid the frantic U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“President Biden had nothing to do with that,” James said. “And for her to interrupt the sitting commander in chief as he’s talking about something so poignant and so important, just to score some cheap political points that only play on some obscure networks for right-wing trolls, is inexcusable.”

Boebert’s outburst drew boos from those present. The address, the first of its kind since Biden took office, is given before a joint session of Congress.

The congresswoman wrote on social media Thursday afternoon that a mutual friend told her the mother of one of the 13 soldiers killed said she “really appreciated [Boebert] speaking out.” Boebert also said she “will not ‘shut up’ about Biden’s failure in Afghanistan and the 13 heroes we lost because of it.”

Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of The View, called Boebert a “little girl” Thursday over her interruption of the address. Goldberg added that even if she does not like Biden, she should “be respectful of him talking about the military and his son who died.”
