President Trump on Wednesday spoke by phone with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe about North Korea’s launch of a ballistic missile on Tuesday.
Trump “made clear that the United States will continue to strengthen its ability to deter and defend itself and its allies,” including Japan, “with the full range of its military capabilities,” according to a White House report.
Trump also reassured Abe that the U.S. will remain a loyal ally to Japan and South Korea in light of North Korea’s continued missile testing.
Abe visited Trump at the White House in February. The two leaders and their wives traveled to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fl., for continued talks, including over a couple of rounds of golf.
