Trump expected to pick Scott Gottlieb to head FDA

President Trump will nominate Scott Gottlieb to head the Food and Drug Administration, according to a source close to the nomination process.

Gottlieb, a prominent conservative thinker and an internist at Tisch Hospital in New York, formerly served as a deputy FDA commissioner under President George W. Bush. He is a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he specializes in drug policy.

Gottlieb advised Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in his presidential bid and served as a member of Trump’s presidential transition team. He didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday afternoon.

President Trump is expected to announce his nomination Friday.

If nominated and approved as FDA commissioner, Gottlieb would likely work toward faster drug approvals, which he has called for in the past.
