Ticketmaster considering mandatory negative COVID-19 test before admittance to events

Ticketmaster is in the early phases of a plan to require eventgoers provide a negative test for COVID-19 or proof of vaccination before being allowed to attend events produced by the company.

The company is looking at a three-stage plan that would incorporate its digital ticket app, third-party health information from companies such as CLEAR Health Pass, and testing centers such as Labcorp and the CVS MinuteClinic.

With the Monday announcement of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine that shows a 90% efficacy rate in clinical trials, Ticketmaster and other event producers are rolling out measures that will create a safe environment for shows to restart.

The plan, which is still in the development phase, would require eventgoers to provide proof of a COVID-19 vaccination within the past year or a negative test within 48 to 72 hours before attending the event. Once the eventgoer provides details confirming a vaccination or negative test, Ticketmaster will then send credentials that will allow individuals access.

Although the Food and Drug Administration has yet to approve any third party, Ticketmaster President Mark Yovich told Billboard that he was bullish on the infrastructure being created in a timely manner that would allow concerts and events to be held in a safe environment.

“We’re already seeing many third-party healthcare providers prepare to handle the vetting — whether that is getting a vaccine, taking a test, or other methods of review and approval — which could then be linked via a digital ticket, so everyone entering the event is verified,” Yovich said.

He added: “Ticketmaster’s goal is to provide enough flexibility and options that venues and fans have multiple paths to return to events, and is working to create integrations to our API and leading digital ticketing technology as we will look to tap into the top solutions based on what’s greenlit by officials and desired by clients.”
