President Trump awarded the Medal of Valor on Thursday to the first responders who helped put a stop to the shooting at a congressional baseball practice last month.
U.S. Capitol Police officers Crystal Griner and David Bailey and Alexandria police officers Nicole Battaglia, Alexander Jensen, and Kevin Jobe received the award from the president in the East Room of the White House.
The Medal of Valor is the highest national honor awarded to public safety officers for bravery and going beyond the call of duty.
Griner was shot and Bailey was wounded while helping to take down the gunman in Alexandria, Va., on June 14. Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., was also one of the five people injured that day. He was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
