Acting Commissioner John Sanders is expected to resign his spot as the head of the Customs and Border Protection agency.
Sanders told employees at CBP Tuesday that he had submitted his resignation that will take effect on July 5.
“I will leave it to you to determine whether I was successful,” Sanders said in a departure email.
He did not give a reason for leaving the agency, but told the employees to “take care of each other.”
Sanders took his position as the acting chief after President Trump selected Kevin McAleenan, the former head of Customs and Border Protection, to become the secretary of homeland security.
