Former mayor of Portland suburb charged with possessing child pornography

The former mayor of a Portland suburb was charged with possession of child pornography.

Denny Doyle, who served as mayor of Beaverton from 2008 to 2020, “knowingly and unlawfully” possessed pornographic digital images of children under the age of 12, the Justice Department’s Oregon District announced on Friday when charging him with one count of possession of child pornography.

Doyle, 73, was in possession of these images between 2014 and 2015. The images were found on a computer flash drive from that time that was turned over to authorities as part of an investigation into the former mayor, a source familiar with the investigation told the Oregonian.

Before becoming mayor of Beaverton in 2008, Doyle was a member of the City Council for 10 years. He was involved in youth soccer clubs starting in at least 1993, and he had a run-in with the law in 2002 when he was arrested for drunken driving, reports said.

U.S. Attorney Scott Erik Asphaug is prosecuting the case, and FBI Portland’s Child Exploitation Task Force helmed the investigation.
