Trump already has millions banked for 2020

President Trump raised $9.6 million in December, jumpstarting his 2020 reelection campaign even before he assumed office for his first term.

Trump seeded his 2016 campaign with about $50 million of his personal fortune, later supplementing that with tens of millions of dollars in outside donations.

The president’s rush to finance a 2020 bid suggests his reelection will be more reliant on supporters — both small donors who give online and wealthy contributors who write big checks to the Republican National Committee and “America First Policies,” a new political nonprofit run by Trump campaign veterans.

Per Trump’s December filing with the Federal Election Commission, his presidential campaign finished 2016 with $7.6 million in the bank and no debt.
