Bran vs. Gelina: Brad Pitt sues ex-wife Angelina Jolie over French vineyard

Brad Pitt is suing ex-wife Angelina Jolie over allegations of selling off part of a vineyard they bought together.

Pitt alleged in a Thursday lawsuit filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court that Jolie illegally sold off the share she owned of Chateau Miraval, a French vineyard where the couple got married. The filing aims to undo Jolie’s deal with the purchaser and seek undetermined damages.

“Jolie seeks to recover unearned windfall profits for herself while inflicting gratuitous harm on Pitt,” the lawsuit said, according to a copy acquired by Page Six. “Jolie long ago stopped contributing to Miraval — while Pitt poured money and sweat equity into the wine business. Jolie seeks to seize profits she has not earned and returns on an investment she did not make.”

The actress told the judge in July 2021 she had reached an agreement to sell her share in the vineyard to an unnamed person, despite the existence of an agreement whereby both reserved the right to approve purchasers. In October, Pitt learned that Russian businessman Yuri Shefler had purchased Jolie’s share without seeking Pitt’s approval. Shefler’s presence in Miraval hindered his ability to operate the vineyard as a business or live there as a home, Pitt claims.

“Jolie consummated the purported sale without Pitt’s knowledge, denying Pitt the consent right she owed him and the right of first refusal her business entity owed his,” Pitt’s lawsuit argued. “She sold her interest with the knowledge and intention that Shefler and his affiliates would seek to control the business to which Pitt had devoted himself and to undermine Pitt’s investment in Miraval.”

Pitt and Jolie purchased the property in 2008 for $28.4 million to use it as a “family business” and a place to “grow old together,” the lawsuit said. It was also where Pitt and Jolie hosted their private wedding in 2014.
