RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a suspected drunken driver was arrested after allegedly going the wrong way on a Riverside County freeway ramp and crashing into a sheriff’s transport van.

City News Service reports the driver, identified as 20-year-old Sergio Garcia of Fontana, suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital following the collision early Monday.

The California Highway Patrol says Garcia drove his 2004 Nissan into the law enforcement van after entering the off-ramp of the 91 Freeway the wrong way.

None of the three occupants in the van was seriously hurt but the Sheriff’s Department says an inmate was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The CHP says alcohol was believed to have been a factor in the wrong-way crash.
