Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said the party’s national convention would not be delayed because of the coronavirus.
In a Fox Business appearance on Friday, McDaniel confirmed President Trump’s statement from the night before about the RNC having no plan to postpone its convention, which is slated to take place Aug. 24 through Aug. 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“Absolutely, the convention is full steam ahead. We were on the ground in Charlotte. We are ready to go, and we look forward to renominating our president and having a full seated convention in August,” McDaniel said.
Like the RNC, the Democratic National Committee plans to go ahead with its convention this summer despite the outbreak. The convention is scheduled to take place from July 13 to July 16 in Milwaukee. Chairman Tom Perez said there was no plan to initiate online voting for the convention to avoid an in-person gathering.
McDaniel also responded to Trump’s rising approval rating during the coronavirus outbreak.

“Well, the numbers are favoring the president’s leadership because he is out in front of the American people every day. They’re seeing this is somebody that gets it done. He has involved the private sector. He’s facing this head-on. He’s communicating to the American people,” McDaniel said.
“Then he’s got the counterprogramming of Joe Biden trying to give briefings and really fumbling. I think it’s shameful that he’s trying to counterprogram against the president during this time of crisis,” she added.
McDaniel recently entered a self-quarantine while she awaited test results for the coronavirus after she came in contact with a person who tested positive for the illness. Her test results came back negative.
