A Marine assigned to the helicopter unit that transports the president has tested positive for COVID-19.
The White House confirmed on Thursday that President Trump has had no contact with the infected Marine and that the risk to the president is low. Other Marines who had contact with the infected person will be removed from the detachment as a precautionary measure.
Members of the unit are tested regularly. The infected person was tested on Tuesday and received the positive result on Thursday.
“No impact is expected to the President during his trip to Bedminster, N.J.,” a Marine Corps spokesman told Politico.
The Marine isn’t the first member of the president’s orbit to be infected with the coronavirus. A personal valet to the president, several Secret Service agents, and Kimberly Guilfoyle, girlfriend of Donald Trump Jr., have all tested positive for the virus.
