Mitch Daniels to lead event with Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson

Former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels will host Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson for a discussion at Purdue University later this month.

Daniels, now the president at Purdue University, will emcee the event on Sept. 13 sponsored by Young Americans for Liberty, a conservative and libertarian group of young adults.

Julie Rosa, an assistant vice president at Purdue, said all three candidates on Indiana’s ballot this November – including Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton – were invited but only Johnson has responded.

There are no signs that Daniels, a Republican, intends to endorse the Libertarian nominee. But Daniels’ appearance with a third-party candidate with less than two months before the election when his gubernatorial successor, Mike Pence, is atop his own party’s ticket appears unprecedented in the Hoosier State.
