Rep. Patrick McHenry R-N.C., on Friday was elected to be the top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee in the next Congress.
McHenry’s election was expected. He was the second-ranking Republican on the committee while also serving as the Republican chief deputy whip in the House of Representatives, a position responsible for vote counting. After Republicans lost majority control of the House in midterm elections, McHenry opted for the ranking member position on the committee overseeing the financial industry.
The North Carolina Republican been a leader on financial technology policy while in Congress. He helped write the JOBS Act, a 2012 law focused largely on crowdfunding.
“In the two years ahead, I look forward to working with my colleagues — both Republicans and Democrats alike — to produce innovative solutions that increase access to banking services and credit for all Americans,” McHenry said in a statement. “In addition, I will work in close consultation with the Trump Administration to ensure their ongoing regulatory relief efforts continue.”
