Senate Intel Chairman Richard Burr says Rod Rosenstein meeting was pre-planned

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr confirmed that he and Vice Chairman Mark Warner met Thursday with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein regarding investigations into Russian election meeting.

Burr, R-N.C., said the meeting was scheduled prior James Comey’s firing as director of the FBI and was set up to make sure his committee is not “stepping on any toes” in the Department of Justice as both branches conduct similar investigations into Russian actions.

“We feel like our investigation can go forward with a fairly good understanding of the rules of the road,” Burr told reporters after the meeting.

Dana Boente, the acting director of Justice Department’s national security division, was also present.

Rosenstein wrote a memo cited by President Trump and the White House as justification for firing Comey on Tuesday.

“It’s a request that we made prior to Director Comey’s departure,” Burr said. “It just so happened that the timing of it … meant that today was the earliest possible time that we could put it together.”
