The DeLorean will be returning to the future with its release as an electric vehicle, but without the flux capacitor.
The DeLorean, the signature vehicle featured in the Back To The Future trilogy, will be making a production comeback after teasing its future release during the Super Bowl. The launch is also followed by a decision to relocate its main offices to the San Antonio area.
“The future was never promised,” the company’s new slogan states on its website.

A release of the DeLorean, known as the DeLorean DMC 12, was teased in 2020 as a fully electric vehicle. Now, the DeLorean Motor Company, which owns the name rights, aims to launch its version of the DeLorean.
Not many details have been revealed about the new vehicle beyond the ad.
The company has also relocated itself to San Antonio, bringing 450 executive, management, and engineering jobs to the city, according to a statement from local developer greater:SATX.
“This is a tremendous win for our region as we further focus our efforts to attract high impact, global headquarters to San Antonio,” said Jenna Saucedo-Herrera, greater:SATX president and CEO. “DeLorean plans to relocate its C-suite executives to San Antonio and hire hundreds of engineering and management positions within our community.”

The original DeLorean Motor Company was founded in 1975 and produced about 9,000 cars between 1981 and 1982. The company would eventually shut down after bankruptcy in 1982. Engineer Stephen Wynne purchased the rights to the name and the parts inventory in 1995 and has kept some version of the DeLorean Motor Company operating since.
This new electric vehicle will be the company’s first new car since the original plant closed in 1982.
