The new ballgame

Every year, sports titles get more and more complex. Features are added, rosters are updated and gameplay mechanics are fine-tuned to make the experience as realistic as possible.

“Major League Baseball 2K7,” unlike other sports franchise games, has taken steps to keep the game accessible to new gamers while rewarding those fans who know every fact and figure about baseball.

This year, the team at 2K Sports has outdone themselves. They’ve compiled stats, stadium layouts and player mannerisms into a game that plays like the real thing. From how Derek Jeter checks his glove to how Ichiro turns his foot when he swings, the game is full of “signature styles” that fans will appreciate.

Pitching mechanics have been improved, as well. Use the left analog stick to set where your pitch should break and time the actual throw so it ends exactly where you want.

Batting and pitching against the computer is also aided by the “Inside Edge” scouting reports your team can purchase on some or all of your opponent’s players.

Overall, the title is very polished and fun to play. “MLB 2K7” is easy to approach and gives gamers a realistic baseball experience that is truly next-gen. Check it out unless you’re a Nintendo fan – this one’s not available one Gamecube or Wii.
