NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Police in Newport News say a man has died after a metal object from a flatbed truck fell on him.
Police spokeswoman Holly McPherson says in a news release the 79-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene of Friday’s accident in Newport News.
McPherson says two men were transporting various pieces of equipment on a flatbed truck when the load shifted. The truck pulled over and the men were adjusting the truck’s cargo straps when a piece of equipment fell.
Police identified the victim as John Parmley of Oriental, North Carolina.
