The U.S. Navy says it is investigating a Boeing 737 crash that took place late Friday night as the plane was arriving in Florida after departing from the Guantanamo Bay base in Cuba.
There were no fatalities from the crash and all 136 passengers and seven aircrew members were accounted for, with only minor injuries to report, the Navy said in a statement Saturday.
The plane skidded off the runway into the St. Johns River at 9:40 p.m. Friday as it was landing at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
The Navy said that an investigation of the “mishap” was underway.
Navy security and emergency response personnel remain on the scene and are monitoring the situation.
The plane took off from Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba, and was reportedly a commercial jet chartered by the Pentagon.
Although Boeing has faced recent scrutiny from several crashes involving its 737 MAX airliner, the plane involved in Friday’s crash was not the same model.
