Ricky Gervais ripped into a story that claimed he and Caitlyn Jenner had a contentious encounter after he made jokes at Jenner’s expense.
“This is absolutely false. She was lovely and gracious,” Gervais said Wednesday about the story on Twitter. “She said she loved my Golden Globes monologue & I said I loved her stint in I’m a Celebrity. And that was it. No snubbing. No awkwardness. No rudeness.”

Gervais, 58, linked his comments to a story from the Mirror titled “Caitlyn Jenner shuts Ricky Gervais down in tense run-in after his gags about her.” The story contended that Jenner “snubbed” Gervais by not talking to him at the National Television Awards red carpet.
The comedian has made jokes in the past about Jenner, who is transgender. “I’ve changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner,” Gervais joked in his 2016 Golden Globes opening monologue about the former athlete’s transition.
The host said Jenner was breaking down stereotypes for women, except for women drivers. The joke was a reference to the 2015 four-car crash that Jenner was involved in.
Gervais hosted the Golden Globes for his fifth, and what he said was his last, time this year. His performance was praised as a “humorous victory” because he took aim at Hollywood in his opening monologue.
