One man died and his wife was hospitalized Saturday night after a fire broke out in their home on the unit block of Madison Street, Northwest.
According to D.C. Fire Department Spokesman Pete Piringer, the woman went downstairs after the house’s fire alarm went off around 8:15 p.m. to find her husband in the kitchen with his clothes on fire. She beat out the flames then went to a neighbor’s house to call for help.
Firemen quickly extinguished the flames but found the husband dead on the scene. The wife was taken to the hospital to be treated for burns.
The couple has not yet been identified.
