Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar demanded President Trump fully divest from his company after Iran threatened his hotels.
On Monday, an Iranian official tweeted a list of properties owned by the Trump Organization and suggested that Trump be targeted following his decision to kill Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani. Trump ordered the drone strike on Soleimani after the general helped organize attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Iraq and an attack that led to the death of an American contractor.
In response to the threat against Trump’s hotels, Omar, 38, called for Trump to divest from his businesses, so the threats against his properties do not influence his foreign policy. She tweeted: “Trump needs to immediately divest from his businesses and comply with the emoluments clause. Iran could threaten Trump hotels *worldwide* and he could provoke war over the loss of revenue from skittish guests. His business interests should not be driving military decisions.”

Trump’s decision to kill Soleimani frustrated Omar, who vowed to “step in and stop” Trump from moving America toward war with Iran. She wrote: “So what if Trump wants war, knows this leads to war and needs the distraction? Real question is, will those with congressional authority step in and stop him? I know I will.”
The president’s businesses have been a point of controversy. During his 2016 campaign, he vowed to isolate himself from his businesses while in the White House, but that didn’t fully happen. The Trump Organization is still operated by his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, and Democrats have condemned the Trump administration for allowing foreign agents and government employees to use the properties.
