Maryland teen arrested, charged in death of rap producer last year

D.C. police arrested a Maryland teen Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of a music producer who was killed last year after he chased a tow truck that had taken his car.

Police apprehended 19-year-old Neiman Marcus Edmonds, of Upper Marlboro, at a home on the 5400 block of Blaine Street in Northeast Washington at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Edmonds is being charged with second-degree murder and is waiting extradition to Prince George’s County, where hip-hop producer Raymond Brown was shot to death. D.C. police spokesmen said Edmonds also was wanted in the District, but they didn’t know what those charges were.

Brown, 36, known in the music industry as Scottie Beats, was killed in October after he and his wife heard noises outside their town house in Mitchellville. Brown saw a tow truck driving off with his Chrysler 300 and jumped in a second car to chase the truck. Brown confronted the tow truck driver and was shot, police said. Brown died at a hospital later that morning.

Brown produced “Crunk Juice” by Lil Jon and was an engineer on “Rebirth” by Jennifer Lopez. He also produced a hip-hop song called “Stop the Violence in the Street.”

Witnesses at the time said the tow truck had circled the Prince George’s County neighborhood several times and appeared to be working with a Cadillac.
