WATCH: Thieves rob elderly woman in church after asking to pray with her

Two thieves in Tennessee demanded an elderly woman pray with them on Feb. 9 as they robbed her in church, authorities said.

The incident occurred at about 6 p.m. at Hilldale Baptist Church, and the pair took the 78-year-old woman’s wallet, investigators with the Clarksville Police Department said.

Both suspects are women, and footage shows the pair sitting beside the elder woman in the pew and starting a conversation.

One of the thieves “requested the victim pray with her,” public information officer Scott Beaubien said.

“While they were praying, the second female rummaged through the victim’s purse and stole her wallet,” Beaubien said.

“The suspects attempted to use the victim’s credit cards at Sam’s and Kroger’s shortly thereafter.”
