Nina Turner eyes congressional bid in Ohio: Report

A top figure on the Left is reportedly testing the waters of a congressional bid.

Nina Turner, a former surrogate for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign, is considering a run for Rep. Marcia Fudge’s seat in Ohio’s 11th Congressional District, should the seat become available, two people close to her told Politico.

“Currently, there is no vacancy in the district, and if it becomes vacant, things will unfold as they should,” Turner told Politico on Tuesday.

Fudge, a seven-term incumbent who was reelected to Congress in November, appears primed to succeed in a Biden administration. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn said Tuesday that he expects Fudge to be in President-elect Joe Biden’s Cabinet.

But Turner said she has been pressed to run whether or not Fudge elects to step down.

“Well, there’s been an outcry for me to at least consider it,” Turner told Politico. “You know, I’m a public servant through and through, but I’m just going to leave it there for now.”

Rep.-elect Cori Bush, a Democrat who won her bid for Congress in Missouri in November, applauded the idea of Turner running for the seat.

“If this actually becomes a thing, my amazing sis @ninaturner must run,” Bush tweeted. “It would be a dream to work alongside her in Congress.”
