Democratic National Committee interim chairwoman Donna Brazile admonished the FBI Friday for informing Congress that it had found additional emails possibly related to its earlier investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private server.
“FBI Director Comey unequivocally cleared Hillary Clinton of any intentional wrongdoing three months ago, and said that no reasonable prosecutor would pursue the case in question further. Now, 11 days away from the election, he released a vague letter that immediately led to rampant speculation in the news media,” Brazile said in a statement provided to the Washington Examiner.
“This would be an irresponsible action at any time and, unsurprisingly, Donald Trump and Republicans are rushing to politicize this episode without any of the facts,” her statement added.
Comey told Congress this week that his agency had found additional emails that may be linked to Clinton’s unauthorized homebrew server.
The Clinton campaign’s eventual response to the news has been and demanded that Comey explain clearly the meaning of his letter to Congress.
“It is extraordinary that we would see something like this just 11 days out from a presidential election, Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, said is a statement. “The Director owes it to the American people to immediately provide the full details of what he is now examining.”
Clinton’s press secretary, Brian Fallon, added elsewhere, “We think, at this point, it is incumbent on Director Comey and the FBI to go further than what is contained in this letter, hold another press conference if that’s what it takes.”
“Come forward to the public with more information that explains what relevance this has on the decision that voters were making when they go to the polls – right now – and choose between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump,” Fallon said.
Brazile concurred.
“The FBI has a solemn obligation to remain neutral in political matters – even the faintest appearance of using the agency’s power to influence our election is deeply troubling. At the very least, Director Comey must immediately address the serious outstanding questions over what, precisely his letter means, and what action or actions his agency plans to take,” she said.
