Alexandria city manager moving to Florida

Alexandria City Manager James Hartmann is heading home to Florida.

Hartmann has accepted a position as manager of Seminole County and will start June 20, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Hartmann has been the city manager in Alexandria since 2005.

His last day in Alexandria will be May 6, after he’s finished guiding the 2012 city budget process.

Bruce Johnson, the city’s chief financial officer, will take his place as acting city manager while officials conduct a national search for Hartmann’s permanent replacement.

Hartmann began his career as an intern in Orange County government offices in 1985, and said he welcomes a return to Florida.

“This job was very attractive to us. My wife and I discussed coming back [to Central Florida] because we have a lot of friends and family in the area,” Hartmann told the Sentinel.
