Montgomery County officials are befuddled as to why residents using Verizon cell phones could not get through to police when dialing 911 during the height of snowstorm two weeks ago — and still have received no explanation for the glitch.

Police officials told the County Council Tuesday they still don’t know why calls from Verizon customers were routed to Prince George’s County instead of their call centers.

“Verizon has failed to give us an explanation about their failure,” said Councilman Roger Berliner, D-Bethesda/Potomac. “This is just totally unacceptable that we haven’t gotten a reason for this.”

Montgomery police said it took 15 minutes to correct the problem.

This reporter’s first call to Verizon seeking answers was dropped. Stay tuned for updates.
