On his Wednesday broadcast, radio host Rush Limbaugh read aloud the entirety of an essay published at the website of the Claremont Review of Books. The essay, published under the byline Publius Decius Mus, refers to the 2016 presidential race as the “Flight 93 Election,” likening the stakes to those on board the hijacked airplane on September 11, 2001.
Bill Kristol took to Twitter Thursday morning to suggest the author’s identity and to challenge the piece’s invocation of Flight 93:
1/ “The Flight 93 Election” is elegantly-written garden-variety sophistry. I presume the author is Mike Anton.https://t.co/83vzH1aiot

2/ The only noteworthy aspect is the disgusting appropriation of the memory of the heroism of Flight 93 to make the case for Trump.

3/ Is any American more distant than Donald Trump from the spirit of heroic self-sacrifice that animated the passengers on Flight 93?

4/ (END) It’s sad to see many alleged friends of American greatness sully true American greatness by invoking Flight 93 to defend Trump.
