Feeling down? A regular exercise regimen could help pull you out of that funk.
“Exercise is shown to reduce stress levels, so it offers some mental clarity,” said Mark Dees, fitness director and a personal trainer at Maryland Athletic Club and Wellness Center in Timonium, Md.
Regular exercise not only offers physical benefits, but it can take your mind off problems, said Holly Reed, a personal trainer at Merritt Athletic Club in Annapolis.
“For one thing, it stimulates your endorphins — those feel-good chemicals,” she said. “Plus, it releases stress and allows you to vent.”
Both trainers recommend speaking to a physician before starting any kind of exercise program.
“I would say to check with your doctor and a personal trainer. It sounds like a sales pitch, but that’s the best way to stay on track and get you feeling good physically and mentally,” Reed said.
