White House announces 12 organizations receiving Trump’s Hurricane Harvey relief donations

The White House announced Wednesday that 12 different organizations assisting with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts will receive personal donations from President Trump and first lady Melania Trump.

Trump pledged to make a $1 million personal donation to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts last week, but the White House tasked members of the White House press corps to suggest which organizations should receive money from the president.

The White House said some of the organizations that will receive donations were recommended by reporters.

Included among the groups are the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, which will receive $300,000 each, and Reach Out America and Samaritan’s Purse, which will receive $100,000 each. The ASPCA, Catholic Charities, Direct Relief, Habitat for Humanity, the Houston Humane Society, Operation Blessing, Portlight Inclusive Disaster Strategies, and Team Rubicon are receiving $25,000 each.

“The President and First Lady witnessed the work of some of these groups first hand while visiting with hurricane survivors, first responders, volunteers, and federal, state, and local officials, and are proud to further assist the recovery efforts in Texas,” the White House said in a statement.
