FCC chairman gets ‘rickrolled’ by protesters

The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission was “rickrolled” by protesters Thursday during an open meeting.

“Rickrolling” refers to sending an unsuspecting victim a disguised hyperlink to Rick Astley’s song “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

The demonstrators from Free Press stood up during the FCC meeting and sang the song in unison “to protest Chairman Ajit Pai’s plans to undermine net neutrality.”

“We’re never gonna give up fighting for our online rights,” Free Press field director Mary Alice Crim said in a statement.

The protesters were escorted out as they sang.

Berin Szoka, the president of tech policy think tank Tech Freedom, tweeted that Pai sang along with the protesters.
