Public gives Trump low grade in first report card: Poll

A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found more Americans disapprove of President Trump’s first month in office than those who approve of his work.

The Feb. 18-22 survey concluded 44 percent of adults sided with the Republican leader — the lowest-ever amount in the month-after-the-inauguration poll — while 48 percent are not happy with Trump’s performance.

Trump is the only president to have his first few weeks in office receive a net negative approval rating of 4 points. Former President Barack Obama received 34 percentage points more in approval ratings than disapproval ones.

The majority of the adults — 53 percent — said Trump’s administration is facing “real problems” compared to the 43 percent that stated the past month’s activity is the result of “growing pains.”

Despite lower-than-average approval numbers, Americans increasingly believe the country is headed in the right direction. Two-in-five people say the U.S. is on course, up from 33 percent in mid-December and 18 percent last July.
