Manassas battlefield gets smartphone app

Starting this month, visitors to the Manassas National Battlefield can use their smartphones as tour guides.

A app debuting on Tuesday will use GPS technology as well as audio, video and animated content to teach visitors about the history of the battlefield.

It will be introduced in time for a re-enactment of the First Battle of Manassas on July 23 and 24, which will feature thousands of re-enactors.

The Civil War Trust, which developed the app, has already created apps for the Fredericksburg and Gettysburg battlefields. Download them here.
