House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that President Trump’s morning tweets about “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski were “blatantly sexist” and “beneath the dignity” of the office of the president.
“I think it’s a blatantly sexist [tweet]. I don’t even know that there’s any question about that,” the California Democrat said.
“That really saddens me because it is so beneath the dignity of the president of the United States to engage in such behavior,” Pelosi said.
The highest ranking Democrat went on to hit Republicans lawmakers for continuing to back him after the tweets and his various other statements during the course of his presidency and last year’s campaign.
“I just don’t know why the Republicans — they can tolerate almost anything,” Pelosi said.
She added that the party “set a low standard” for public officials and pointed to Trump and Rep. Greg Gianforte, R-Mont., after he admitted to assaulting a reporter.
