SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — A San Luis Obispo man has been arrested on suspicion of binding his girlfriend and torturing her for two hours before she escaped.

Police announced 33-year-old Timothy Hayes’ arrest on Tuesday.

Lt. John Bledsoe says officers went to a gas station late Monday, where they found a 27-year-old woman with burn marks and cuts and bruises covering her body.

She said Hayes bound her with tape at his home and assaulted her with a knife, scissors and a pool cue. She said he also burned her with kitchen utensils.

Bledsoe told the San Luis Obispo Tribune (http://bit.ly/WQdJvL) eventually the woman was able to calm Hayes down and loosen the tape and escape.

Police said Hayes appeared to be under the influence of a drug when he was taken into custody.
