Biden, Harris, and spouses help at food pantry ahead of Thanksgiving

The first and second couples helped a Washington, D.C., food pantry organize Thanksgiving meals for those in need.

President Joe Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and second gentleman Doug Emhoff gathered at D.C. Central Kitchen on Tuesday.

They packaged up all the usual Turkey Day items, from green beans to gravy, while wearing aprons and masks.

D.C. Central Kitchen is a nonprofit organization that “combats hunger and poverty through job training and job creation” and “provides hands-on culinary job training for individuals facing high barriers to employment while creating living wage jobs and bringing nutritious, dignified food where it is most needed,” according to its website.

The Bidens will spend the holiday on Nantucket, where they’ve reportedly been going for vacation since they were dating.

The public could see costs increase at the grocery store amid economic consequences from the coronavirus pandemic as well as the supply chain crisis.

Some consumer experts have made recommendations from forgoing the turkey, typically the most expensive Thanksgiving item, to asking holiday guests to chip in some cash.
