Cuomo loses his Emmy Award

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo will lose his 2020 Emmy Award, the International Academy announced Tuesday.

Cuomo’s name and any reference that he received the award will be eliminated from all International Academy materials in the future, according to the release.

“In light of the New York Attorney General’s report, and Andrew Cuomo’s subsequent resignation as Governor, [the International Academy] is rescinding his special 2020 International Emmy Award,” a statement said.

Cuomo had been given the award “for effective communication and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic,” the International Academy announced in 2020.

The Emmy was created to recognize those who can transcend cultural divides in connecting to a “common humanity.”

Cuomo was acknowledged for his use of television to calm citizens and provide information during the early months of the coronavirus pandemic.
