Guests at the Hilton hotel in Gaithersburg got an early wake up call Sunday morning when an electrical fire filled several floors with smoke, according to the Montgomery County Fire Department.
The fire department was called to the hotel on Perry Parkway around 7:28 a.m. to a report of smoke on the sixth floor, according to Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham. The smell had traveled to the fifth and seventh floor, as well.
Hotel guests were evacuated and some guests with disabilities had to be escorted out, he said.
It appears that a problem with the wiring of an ice machine or vending machine was to blame, he said.
