Ted Cruz has asked one of his top advisers to resign Tuesday, according to media reports. Rick Tyler, who is Cruz’s communications director and the chief spokesman for the campaign, publicized a news story and video Sunday that falsely stated Marco Rubio mocked a Cruz staffer for reading the Bible.
Tyler posted on Twitter and Facebook a story from a college newspaper that incorrectly reported Rubio had said of the Bible that there were “not many answers” in it. He apologized and deleted the posts.
As late as Monday morning, Tyler was still speaking on behalf of the Cruz campaign on Fox News, where he also apologized for publicizing the false story.
GOP rival Donald Trump noted Cruz’s staff change on Twitter:
Wow, Ted Cruz falsely suggested Marco Rubio mocked the Bible and was just forced to fire his Communications Director. More dirty tricks!
