A woman was arrested after police said she attempted to buy another woman’s infant son in the checkout line of a Walmart in Crockett, Texas, for $500,000.
Rebecca Taylor, 49, was detained on Jan. 18 after she walked up to a woman with two children and propositioned the mother for her youngest child, according to a report.
Taylor “began commenting on her son’s blonde hair and blue eyes. She asked how much she could purchase him for. [The mother] tried to laugh this comment off, thinking Taylor was joking,” police said. “Taylor told her that she had $250,000 in the car and she would pay that much for him. [The mother] told her no amount of money would do.”

After the refusal, Taylor became louder, offered the mother $500,000, and reportedly threatened to steal the infant.

Taylor was with another woman, who asked the mother for the child’s name, but the mother refused to give it up, police said.
However, the women knew it already and called out the child’s name, according to authorities.
The mother managed to get her children away from Taylor, who drove away in a black SUV, and she contacted police, according to the report.
Police officers went to Taylor’s residence, where they were rebuffed, the report noted.
“She told me that she doesn’t like thieves. Then she stated I could speak with her attorney and to get off her ‘precipice.’ She slammed the door shut,” Lt. Ahleea Price of the Crockett Police Department said.
Taylor was later arrested and was charged with the sale or purchase of a child, according to the report.
The charge is a third-degree felony in Texas.
