Two-thirds of Americans believe racism is still a prevalent issue in the U.S., according to a new poll.
Sixty-four percent of Americans said racism in American politics and society remains “a major problem,” the results of a NBC/SurveyMonkey poll found.
Thirty percent said that racism still exists in American society, however didn’t classify it as a major issue. Meanwhile, 3 percent responded that racism once existed, but no longer is an issue. One percent of respondents said racism was never a major issue.
The poll also found that 45 percent of respondents believe that race relations are getting worse in America while 41 percent think not enough attention is given to race issues.
Overall, 30 percent say race relations is the biggest source of division in America today, a sharp four point increase from February.
According to those polled, racial tensions can be attributed to a number of everyday scenarios, such as workplace relations and social events as well as large national events.
The NBC/SurveyMonkey poll surveyed 6,518 adults between May 14-21 with a margin or error of plus or minus percentage points.
