‘Have some b—s for once’: Ted Cruz and Mark Cuban feud over NBA stance on China and national anthem

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Sen. Ted Cruz squared off in an online dunking contest while feuding over the NBA’s relationship with China.

The billionaire first engaged with Cruz on Monday after the Texas Republican sarcastically wished the NBA “good luck” with a policy that allows players to kneel during the national anthem before games.

“Have some balls for once @tedcruz. Speak to me. It’s my tweet,” Cuban said of Cruz’s tweet, which did not directly tag his account.

“Speaking of balls, tell us what you think about China. I’ll wait,” Cruz rebutted, later adding, “Still no answer from @mcuban. Let’s try simpler. Mark, tough guy, can you say ‘Free Hong Kong’? Can your players put that on their jerseys? Can you condemn the CCP’s concentration camps w/ 1 million Uyghurs? Can you say ANYTHING other than ‘Chairman Mao is beautiful & wise’?”

Cuban fired back at Cruz with a thread of tweets, noting that he will only comment on issues that directly impact the United States, such as systemic racism.

“I can say Black Lives Matter. I can say there is systemic racism in this country. I can say there is a Pandemic that you have done little to end. I can say I care about this country first and last and if you think I wont criticize China and what they do as it concerns American Citizens watch this and this movie,” Cuban said, linking to an interview in which he commented on U.S.-China trade policy and a film he produced about Chinese security fraud.

“I have never gotten involved in the domestic policies of ANY foreign country. We have too much to do here. And why is it, @tedcruz, that you take such pride in standing up to and speaking truth to the Chinese, but you have no ability to stand up to and speak the truth to @realDonaldTrump?” he continued.

Cruz, a frequent critic of the Chinese Communist Party, took note of Cuban’s language about the domestic affairs of foreign countries and asked why he is “terrified to say ONE WORD about China?”

“I agree Black Lives Matter. I agree there is a pandemic & we have taken extraordinary steps to defeat it. Where did that pandemic originate? Why did Communist China COVER UP the Wuhan outbreak & arrest whistle-blowers? And why are you terrified to say ONE WORD about China?” the Texas Republican said.
